Following the lead of the Army and Marines, the Air Force recently came out with a new Airman Battle Uniform (ABU). It’s not mandatory to wear it until 2011. But most AAFES base exchanges sell out almost as soon as a new shipment comes in.
There’s been much debate about the Tiger Stripe pattern of this uniform. And it actually went through several different iterations during the 2-3 year wear testing. The final product has met with mixed reviews. Many are finding the material to be too heavy in hot environments such as Iraq. Never the less, given the rapid pace of sales, I think it’s safe to say that many Airmen are just plain tired of the old green BDU. Like it or not, this is the Air Force Uniform for the 21st Century.
